Market access, verified participation and lower bill yields

Mobile access widened as the verified tape strengthened and bill yields fell

Signal

1,379.16 and 2,320.19 rose on 26 August as equity turnover reached TZS 12.860bn and BoT bill yields fell across all four tenors.

Why it matters

NBC’s mobile trading route removes an access barrier, but value remained concentrated and disclosed usage evidence is still unavailable.

What to watch

Funded accounts, completed orders and repeat use are the tests of whether easier access becomes broader participation.

Did the domestic market and the headline index tell the same story over the covered quarter?

Equity participation

Three large counters carried 93.7% of verified equity turnover

Signal

Twenty-one counters traded as equity turnover reached TZS 12.860bn on 26 August.

Why it matters

CRDB supplied 32.7% of value, TBL 30.9% and NMB 30.2%, while 11 counters advanced and 8 declined.

What to watch

The next verified close tests whether activity spreads beyond the three leading counters.

Sovereign rates

Every Treasury bill tenor cleared below the preceding auction

Signal

Auction 1205 yields fell by 3.56 to 12.57 basis points across the 35-day, 91-day, 182-day and 364-day tenors.

Why it matters

The 364-day yield closed at 6.6492%, 39.9 basis points above the 6.25% CBR. One auction does not establish a lasting easing cycle.

What to watch

The next dated BoT bill auction tests whether the all-tenor decline persists.

Port throughput

Dar port’s achieved 11-month cargo volume already exceeded the prior full year

Signal

TPA reported 30.8mn tonnes handled in the first 11 months of FY2025/26, above 27.7mn tonnes in all of FY2024/25.

Why it matters

The 33.7mn tonne headline is TPA’s full-year projection, not achieved throughput. Cargo mix, dwell time and rail share remain undisclosed.

What to watch

The final full-year outturn tests the projection and whether higher volume came with lower operating friction.

The model-book allocation read

The Ghost’s hypothetical model ledger is +11.05% since inception at its 2026-08-26 mark. The stronger DSE session and lower bill yields are observations, while the effect of the new mobile trading route remains unproven.
