The week ahead
Signal
4,444.48 and 9,924.23 enter Monday as official Friday levels, while NMB and CRDB supplied 96.5% of Friday turnover.
Why it matters
The index basis break still blocks a weekly return, so the coming week must be read through official levels, company endpoints and value distribution.
What to watch
Confirmation would be broader traded value and comparable index evidence. Weakening evidence would be continued concentration or an unresolved basis break.

Index test
Signal
4,444.48 and 9,924.23 are official 28 August levels; returns across the 26 August scale discontinuity remain unavailable.
Why it matters
An official level can remain valid while a cross-break return is not, so direction should not be inferred from the discontinuity.
What to watch
Confirmation: an official DSE methodology notice or a clean comparable series. Weakening evidence: the basis break remains unresolved.
Liquidity test
Signal
Friday equity turnover was TZS 10.200bn; NMB supplied TZS 8.543bn and CRDB supplied TZS 1.304bn.
Why it matters
Twenty counters traded, but the two banks supplied 96.5% of value, leaving headline liquidity narrow in distribution.
What to watch
Confirmation: more counters supply visible value from 31 August. Weakening evidence: NMB and CRDB continue to absorb nearly all turnover.
Company test
Signal
Excluding NMB's subdivision break, 10 of 27 comparable counters rose, 11 fell and six were unchanged Friday-to-Friday.
Why it matters
Ticker endpoints preserved a usable company-level signal even though index-level weekly returns were unavailable.
What to watch
Confirmation: the leading endpoint moves retain visible trading support. Weakening evidence: large moves persist without traded value.

Signal
BoT scheduled a 10-year Treasury bond reopening for 2 September; the latest 10-year yield marker is 10.87% from 22 July.
Why it matters
The auction gives the week a primary-source checkpoint, while the prior marker is context rather than a forecast of the new result.
What to watch
Confirmation or weakening comes only from the official auction result, including yield, demand and allocation on its own publication date.
FX and gold test
Signal
BoT USD/TZS fell 0.16% from 21 to 28 August; Mining Commission world gold rose 1.34% over the same endpoints.
Why it matters
Both moves were modest and source-dated, so each should be tested on its own official series rather than combined into one directional call.
What to watch
Confirmation: subsequent official observations extend either move. Weakening evidence: the corresponding source series reverses it.
Operating evidence
Signal
TPA reported 30.8mn tonnes in the first 11 months of FY2025/26, above 27.7mn tonnes in all of FY2024/25.
Why it matters
The achieved volume is measurable operating evidence, while the 33.7mn-tonne full-year figure remains a projection.
What to watch
Confirmation: a dated final TPA outturn with cargo mix, dwell time and rail share. Weakening evidence: the projection is not supported by final data.
