Method and limits

Domestic names: cap change divided by starting domestic cap, minus cap change divided by starting all-market cap. Cross-listed names: subtract the all-market component. KCP checks every company, the implied share basis and each cap-total/index relationship at every retained verified close in the period. This is not official DSE company attribution. Turnover does not enter the calculation. Incompatible basis changes withhold the calculation.

Contributions are rounded; small unallocated residual: -0.000070 pp. No balancing adjustment is applied.

Coverage: 28 companies. KCP classification dated 2026-09-03.

Share trading

Trading value fell while headline price measures rose

Signal

Shares changed hands for TZS 2.23bn on Tuesday, down from TZS 4.27bn on Monday, rounded.

Evidence

Price measures and money traded answer different questions. Lower trading value does not establish a loss of confidence.

What to watch

The next DSE report can show whether trading value changes again. Its publication timing is unconfirmed.

Currency

The official dollar reference uses fewer shillings

Signal

The 7 October official reference uses fewer shillings per United States dollar than the 6 October figure.

Why it matters

Bank of Tanzania means: TZS 2,637.24 on 6 October, final; 2,635.57 on 7 October, provisional and rounded. Customer exchange prices can differ.

What to watch

A finalized 7 October sheet would test the provisional reference. Its publication timing is unconfirmed.

Railway revenue

Railway receipts need a matching cost account

Signal

Daily News reports over TZS 169bn earned by the Dar to Morogoro railway since passenger services began in June 2024.

Why it matters

Revenue is money received before costs. Without matching operating costs and loan payments, the report cannot establish profit.

What to watch

Accounts covering the same period would show costs and debt payments. Their publication date is unconfirmed.

What to watch

The next tests, without prediction

  1. Next DSE share-trading report

Distinguishes money exchanged for shares from changes in their prices.

Next official session; publication timing unconfirmed

  2. Finalized 7 October Bank of Tanzania currency sheet

Tests the provisional dollar mean against a final observation.

    Publication timing unconfirmed

  3. Railway revenue and cost accounts

Would show whether revenue covers operating costs and debt payments.

Next accounts covering the reported period; date unconfirmed

Editor’s note

I distinguish rising share-price measures from the amount traded. Less money changed hands, but that does not establish why people traded. I include the reported railway receipts because revenue helps explain transport operations. Without matching costs and loan payments, I cannot treat those receipts as profit. The dollar reference is provisional and retains its separate 7 October date.
