The week ahead
Signal
Friday close: DSEI 4,658.31, TSI 10,400.36.
Why it matters
Next week tests participation, not just prices.
What to watch
Five-session comparison: 18 September.
Did the domestic market and the headline index move together or apart over the covered quarter?

Index direction
Signal
Both official share indices rose. DSEI gained 2.97% and TSI gained 5.84% from 4 to 11 September.
Why it matters
TSI tracks domestic listings. Its larger rise showed that the domestic market outpaced the broader index during this window.
What to watch
Compare both indices at each verified close.

Signal
Five sessions recorded TZS 61.068bn in traded shares. This was 29.31% below the preceding five-session week.
Why it matters
Higher indices did not mean more money changed hands. Traded shares recorded 42 advances, 33 declines and 28 unchanged observations. These count each company separately each day, not distinct companies.

Signal
The 9 September auction reported annual yields of 2.29%, 3.42%, 4.92% and 6.47% across the four tenors.
Why it matters
Yield expresses income relative to price on an annual basis. The comparison spans different maturities; it is not four interchangeable products.
What to watch
Compare the next official result at the same tenor.
Currency
Signal
The BoT mean moved from TZS 2,638.9608 to 2,637.9658 per US dollar between the two Fridays. That was a 0.04% decline.
Why it matters
A lower USD/TZS quote means fewer shillings per dollar. This small reference-rate move is distinct from a bank customer’s actual conversion rate.
What to watch
Watch the next dated BoT sheet, not a forecast.
Prices
Signal
July to August: headline inflation 4.2% to 4.3%; food inflation 4.1% to 3.7%, year on year.
Why it matters
Food prices rose more slowly. They did not fall.
What to watch
Wait for the next monthly NBS release.

Hypothetical Ghost: +16.89% since inception, marked 11 September.
Tape read: The model book reads this week as an accounting lesson shown from its second side. All five equity holdings rose between the 4 and 11 September verified closes and no savings were contributed, so the whole of the rise in hypothetical value is market P&L rather than a deposit. The domestic Tanzania Share Index rose 5.84% against the All-Share's 2.97%, the reverse of last week, because the same cross-listed names that lifted the broader index then fell now; index scope, not a new market fact. Breadth stayed even at 10 counters up and 10 down on 29% lower turnover, and the largest model-book equity allocation passed 20% of the book, which is why the terrain observation here is concentration rather than confirmation. Educational terrain observations only, never positions or recommendations.
